The owner is really cheap, and if it costs money he's probably going to select the cheapest option. The pay is terrible, the benefits aren't great either. The health insurance is the basic minimum to be compliant with the health reform act. Specialists are not covered and the deductibles are ridiculously high. We had an all hands meeting to go over the plan, and he owner had the audacity to ask employees to raise their hands if they needed to see a specialist. You do get paid holidays, but at the rate of pay you would be better off unemployed. They don't buy software, they use trials and beta versions. My developer work station was equipped with Windows 10 beta. If the software costs money, you don't get it - you are expected to find something similar that is either a trial or free. Management is a joke. None of the managers have any official training as management, and it's blatantly obvious. There is no written documentation on any system or process that is current, meaning within this decade. Everything about the place is frustrating.
