Shameful pay rate

Pros

Students, other instructors sharing their cultures

Cons

Instructors are paid unskilled labor rates of $12/hr —cashiers anywhere make more, without the education and training instructors have. Yet, without the instructors there would be no Berlitz, no overpaid CEO.

Pros

Can't really think of any.

Cons

If you are seeking employment with Berlitz anywhere in the U.S., and especially at the Princeton (NJ) headquarters, be aware: 1. The parent company, Benesse Japan, has significant cash-flow difficulties and is having trouble pouring in the millions of dollars needed annually to keep Berlitz (US) afloat; 2. In Dec. 2012, there were lay-offs amounting easily to a third (probably larger) of staff overall, effective date of lay-offs being Friday, Dec. 28, 2012; 3. As a result, Berlitz (US) is looking to hire replacement professionals (e.g., mid-level managers such as human resources managers, district managers, curriculum-development managers) at cut-rate pay (i.e., Berlitz (US) laid off managers making $120K and is looking to replace them with managers starting at, say, $50K); 4. Which is all fine, but just be aware that it will be a tremendous pressure-cooker due to the huge internal corporate deficit Berlitz (US) is running vis-a-vis Benesse Japan; 5. Lastly, note the "comments" section. You can't say you haven't been warned.

Pros

Great people and coworkers, truly well rounded individuals that love to travel and see the world. You will work 9am-5pm because there is hardly enough work to go around.

Cons

Berlitz is in a financial pit and struggling to keep themselves alive. Management has no idea what to do, seriously lacking in business experience and people skills. Instead of motivating their employees to push through this difficult period in Berlitz's history, they resort to cutting incentives and commission and reducing pay. Morale is therefore nonexistent and there are no opportunities for advancement.
