Mission Aflac Incorporated is a Fortune 500 company, helping provide financial protection to millions of policyholders and customers through its subsidiaries in the U.S. and Japan. When a policyholder or insured gets sick or hurt, Aflac pays cash benefits promptly, for eligible claims, directly to the insured (unless assigned otherwise). For more than six decades, Aflac voluntary insurance policies have given policyholders the opportunity to focus on recovery, not financial stress.
For nearly 68 years, we have focused on giving customers the best supplemental insurance experience possible. When a person gets sick or hurt, Aflac pays cash fast.
Description Aflac is more than just an insurance company. Our story began in 1955 with three brothers in Columbus, GA who believed in the importance of helping provide financial protection for families during crucial moments. Their love and passion for added financial peace of mind were matched by their commitment to helping society. Aflac quickly expanded, spreading its wings to Japan in 1974 and being listed on the New York Stock Exchange in the same year, for more than six decades.
In the U.S., Aflac is the No. 1 provider of supplemental health insurance in the U.S.
Since 1957, Aflac has been a pioneer in cancer insurance. Our passion for seeing our policyholders through this distressing time is at the very heart of who we are. After years of growth, Aflac became a leading provider of supplemental health insurance in the U.S., with an expanded portfolio that includes group dental, vision, life and disability products.
In 1995, Aflac began to focus its national philanthropic efforts on the treatment and cure of childhood cancer and pledged $3 million to establish the Aflac Cancer Center at what was then Egleston Children’s Hospital, now known as Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
The iconic Aflac Duck was born in 2000, quickly becoming a well-known advertising icon associated with the company. Additionally, "My Special Aflac Duck," a social robot designed to help children cope with cancer, was created, and received accolades such as the Best in Show and Tech for Good awards at CES, in 2018 as well as being named one of the best inventions of that same year by Time magazine.
Throughout Aflac history, the driving force has always been to leave a positive impact on society and in the hearts of Americans, reflecting the love and passion of our founders.
